Apple Silicon · Intel build coming soon
Version 0.1.12 · Released Apr 28, 2026 · All releases
Mac: drag Clipy.app to Applications, verified by Apple Developer ID. Windows: pick installer, MSI, or portable zip — per-user install needs no admin. Requires macOS 12.3+ or Windows 10 (1903)+.
Clipy ships free on both Mac and Windows. Mac is a signed and notarized DMG for Apple Silicon (M1 and newer), macOS 12.3+. Windows comes in three install modes — installer (.exe) with per-user or per-machine, MSI (.msi) for enterprise deploys, and portable (.zip) that runs without installing — for Windows 10 (1903) and newer, 64-bit. No watermark, no signup to watch, signed auto-update on both platforms.

Signed by Apple Developer ID + notarized. Auto-updates from inside the app. macOS 12.3 (Monterey) or later.
For Windows
Three install modes — pick the one that matches how you (or your IT team) deploy software. All three are functionally identical once installed.
Installer (.exe)
- ·Picks per-user (no admin) or per-machine at install time
- ·Auto-updates from inside the app
- ·~12 MB; downloads WebView2 on first install
Recommended for most users.
Enterprise (.msi)
- ·Always per-machine — needs admin to install
- ·Silent install via msiexec /qn
- ·Deploy via SCCM, Intune, Group Policy
For IT teams managing rollouts.
Portable (.zip)
- ·Extract anywhere, double-click Clipy.exe
- ·Zero install · zero admin · zero registry writes
- ·No auto-update — re-download to upgrade
For locked-down laptops + USB use.
Windows 10 (build 1903, May 2019) or newer · 64-bit · uses Windows Graphics Capture for screen + WASAPI for system audio.
Linux build is on the roadmap. Clipy on the web works in any modern browser today — no install needed.
Frequently asked questions
Is Clipy free to download?
Yes — completely free on both Mac and Windows. No trial period, no credit card, no feature gates. Recordings have no watermark and viewers never need an account to watch.
Which Mac processors does Clipy support?
Clipy is a native Apple Silicon (arm64) app. It runs on every Apple Silicon Mac — M1, M2, M3, M4, M5 and newer, including all Pro, Max, and Ultra variants. Apple Silicon is forward-compatible across chip generations, so the same build runs natively on the latest Macs with no Rosetta. An Intel Mac build is on the roadmap but not yet shipped.
What macOS version do I need?
macOS 12.3 (Monterey) or later. System audio capture requires macOS 13 (Ventura) or later because it relies on ScreenCaptureKit's audio APIs.
What Windows version do I need?
Windows 10 build 1903 (May 2019 Update) or newer, 64-bit only. Screen capture uses the Windows Graphics Capture API, which shipped in 1903. Windows 11 is fully supported. ARM64 Windows (Surface Pro X, Copilot+ PCs) is not yet supported but is on the roadmap.
Which Windows download should I pick?
Three options, all free and all functionally equivalent. The installer (.exe) is an NSIS installer that asks at install time whether you want to install for just yourself (no admin required) or for all users on the machine (requires admin). The MSI (.msi) is for enterprise IT teams who deploy via SCCM, Intune, or Group Policy — it always installs per-machine and supports silent install flags. The portable (.zip) is for the strictest lockdowns: extract anywhere, double-click Clipy.exe, no install, no admin, no registry writes — auto-update is disabled in this mode, you re-download to update.
Can I install Clipy on a locked-down corporate Windows laptop without admin rights?
Almost always yes. The installer (.exe) supports a per-user mode that writes to %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\Clipy and doesn't need admin. The portable zip needs no install at all. Edge cases: organizations running AppLocker, WDAC, or strict SmartScreen policies may block any unsigned executable — in that case your IT team has to whitelist the publisher, and there is no purely client-side workaround.
Is the Windows installer code-signed?
Initial Windows releases ship unsigned while we work on the OV / EV code-signing certificate. The first launch will show a SmartScreen warning that the user can click through (More info → Run anyway). Code signing is on the immediate roadmap; once it lands, the warning goes away and the auto-updater verifies signatures on every update.
Is the Mac DMG signed and notarized?
Yes. Every Mac release is code-signed with our Apple Developer ID and notarized through Apple's notarytool in CI. macOS verifies the signature on first launch — no Gatekeeper override or right-click-Open dance is needed.
How big is the download?
Mac DMG is around 150 MB. The Windows installer is around 12 MB and downloads the Edge WebView2 runtime on first install (~120 MB). The Windows portable zip is around 130 MB because it bundles WebView2 directly so it works offline.
Where do I find older versions?
All historical releases are listed at clipy.online/download/releases with version, release date, platform, and direct download links. You can downgrade to a previous build at any time.
Does Clipy auto-update?
Yes for the Mac DMG and the Windows installer (.exe / .msi). The portable zip on Windows intentionally does NOT auto-update — that would defeat the no-install promise — so re-download the zip when you want to upgrade. Mac updates are verified against our Apple Developer ID; Windows updates are verified against our Tauri updater signature once code signing lands.
