Why does Clipy exist?
Loom and its imitators have quietly turned the basic act of recording your screen into a paid feature. You hit a 5-minute cap. You get a watermark in the corner. How did Clipy start?
Clipy started as a personal frustration. We were sending short walkthrough videos to teammates and customers every day, and every tool we tried added a paywall, a watermark, or a signup wall on the receiving end. The recording itself was not the hard part — the friction around it was.
We built the recorder we wanted: hit a key, record, stop, share the link. Three surfaces — Mac, Chrome, web — so we could use it wherever we already were. No watermark even on the free flow, because there is no other flow.
