How it works

  1. 1

    Get a Clipy recording link

Paste a link to any public Clipy recording, or record a new one with the button above. Chapters need a finished transcript, which happens automatically after upload.

  2. 2

    Generate the chapter list

Click Generate chapters. Clipy reads the transcript and marks each real topic change with a timestamp and a short title, instead of chopping the recording into arbitrary equal segments.

  3. 3

Copy chapters where you need them

Use 'Copy as YouTube chapters' for a description box (each line starts at 0:00), or 'Copy as Markdown' for a doc or PR description with clickable jump links back into the recording.

Make a long recording skimmable

Chapters turn a single long clip into something a viewer can jump around in, the same way a long YouTube video becomes easier to navigate once it has a chapter list under the player.

Combine with a summary

Pair chapters with theVideo Summarizer for the short version, or theMeeting Notes Generator when the recording was a discussion with decisions and action items rather than a solo demo.

Chapters from real topic changes, not fixed intervals

A chapter list that just splits a recording every 60 seconds is not useful — most of those breaks land mid-sentence. This tool reads the transcript and places chapter breaks where the topic actually shifts.

What happens without an AI key configured

If AI generation isn't available, the fallback still returns a usable chapter list: a new chapter roughly every few minutes, titled from the first words spoken at that point, so the tool never leaves you empty-handed.

Common questions

Do the timestamps actually work as links?

Yes — each chapter timestamp links to the recording at that exact second (watch URL + ?t=seconds), and the Markdown copy option keeps those links intact.

Why did I get a 'transcript not ready' error?

Transcription runs automatically after upload but takes a little time on longer recordings. Wait for the watch page to show the transcript, then try again.

How many chapters will I get?

It depends on the recording's length and how often the topic changes — typically a handful for a short walkthrough, more for a longer one. It won't create a chapter for every sentence.
